What this platform costs

I host this platform with a very good host. That costs me money. The more people use the platform, the more storage I need to buy, and the more it costs me. I don't want to make money from this platform, but I don't want to lose money either. So I have two options for you:

Free

This will be free forever (or at least until I die or run out of money).

  • 3 galleries
  • 90 images
  • 1 information page

£0

This makes sure I don't die or run out of money.

  • 10 galleries
  • 400 images
  • 10 information pages

£30/year

What this platform is

On the free account you get a maximum of 3 galleries, 90 images, and 1 information page.

Galleries

Galleries are collections of images arranged neatly on a page. You can have as many images as you like in a gallery, but the total number of images across all galleries must not exceed the total number your package allows.

Images

Images are the pictures you upload to the platform. You can add images to galleries, and you can also add images to information pages. An image can be shown in multiple galleries, but no matter how many times it is used around your site, it only counts as one image on your total allowed number.

Information pages

Information pages are pages where you can write about yourself, your work, or anything else you like. You can add images to information pages, but these images count towards your total image count. The images used in these pages can also be part of a gallery. An example setup for multiple pages might be: "Projects", which has links to individual project pages. Not also that you can link to individual pages off an individual image in a gallery.

What this platform is not

XIIP is not a social media site. You won't find likes, shares, or algorithms here. Instagram is a much better environment if that is what you are after.

Do not rely on XIIP to store your work. It is a portfolio hosting platform designed to give people access to a selected subset of your work - it is not a place of safe-keeping. For that use one of the big cloud services.

Your pictures are optimised for the web when uploaded to XIIP. In that process their quality is reduced to the point where it does not make a difference on a computer or phone screen to the human eye. However that quality is much lower than the original quality of your photos.

Who am I?

I'm Bruce. This is my site on XIIP: /bruceclothier. I built XIIP because I didn't like the complexity, interface, or technical implementation of the other gallery options available.

I have friends. Some of whom are artists who wish to share their work. One thing led to another... XIIP!
